However, I like getting involved with things that help people. Examples have included leading scout programs even though I myself do not have any kids of my own. For the past ten years, I have been quite active in my college church group and various academic societies. In that same time, I have had some amazing opportunities and accomplished some challenging goals.
Just because my education and work have come at the expense of a social life, does not mean I do not make time for things of social importance. It is not just a case of work to live. It is more a case of exceed to live, and make the lives of those I love better.
Social occasions with those I love have a habit of showing me why I must work so hard. I hope there is a special woman to share my life with, and remind me that I am not alone in this journey. I hope I find her, or she finds me.
In my humble opinion, self-confidence and determination is not enough. Each trait is enough to charge at walls, and that may be enough to take down weak walls. I am lucky to have defended my Ph.D. dissertation this month, and I am grateful that the committee was exceptionally pleased. Life is about more than confidence and hard charging. It also involves humility, love, and the ability to value others above one self. This is especially hard in a world that seems to demand personal distinction to amount to anything.
I am amazed by the beauty of Southern California, and would like to explore it more. I would prefer that exploration be with a beautiful woman as both my companion, friend, and better half.

I have been fortunate in life in many respects - I have a good job, I never had to live hand-to-mouth, raised a great daughter who is married to a terrific son-in-law, done some traveling, experienced many varied adventures and things, and reasonably talented at many things. The only thing that has eluded me has been the one true companion with which to share life with. I have met some nice people on Match, even remain friends with some, but haven’t met the "right" one.
I am both responsible and self sufficient. I never have lived with my parents since I graduated from college. My credit score is stellar. (This means I won't ask you for money or leach off of you.)

I enjoy social dancing various styles with my favorite being swing. I teach dance, so don't worry if you don't know how. I'd be happy to teach you. And, yes, my job as a lead is to make YOU (not me) look good.
Photography is another hobby of mine. It allows me to take the path less traveled, to see the world in ways the average person does not see it. Sometimes this means not traveling in herds of people, seeing remote places or common places but from a different view, or slowing time down to absorb nature and creation.
I’m not a jock (no marathons) but neither am I a couch potato. I will do most physical things (bike, hike, raft, ski, dance). This allows me to get off the beaten path and explore things/places -- and see the world from a different perspective.
I’d like to think that I’m intelligent and can converse about most anything – the sciences, arts, history, politics just to name a few.
I've noticed that some ladies on this site talk about having someone to trust and is essentially in their corner when times are bad. I'd like to think I'm that person. However, from my own personal experience, I remember having one of those negative life changing events and the person who was purported to have my back did a great job making the day worse. So it is also important to me to find that person who also has my back.

Let me address the one negative thing. I do live in a small remote town. This is because I have a well paying job-a commodity these days. Hiking, rafting, skiing and scenery are all close by. The Sierra are 15 miles from my front door. I don't sit for hours in rush hour. I can ride my bike to work without inhaling tons of auto exhaust. I do often head out of town and I would expect to come to you first.

AS stated working on this....I am fit and trim...I hike almost every day, for exercise, not just moving around:) and do weights I like being tan...I would like the beautiful next person in my life to also take of care her self too...good for the heart, mind, and limbido....I like all music...Gangster rap generally can do with out...Not much to do in this little town, but what it does offer I do and enjoy it. I would like to learn and share with someone...sounds sappy..but I think that what relationships are about...yuuup..holding hands, pecks on the check....and yes kissing...but let's be honest....sensible time for all things and right places for them to be done...I am generally a happy person, but we all have DAYs....
