I have traveled and read and I also have a college education. However, my father was brilliante long before he ever went to college as a result of the GI bill. I come from working class people. My father and his family pioneered the Imperial Vally at the turn of the century. My mother's family immigrated to this country from Odessa in the Ukraine also at the turn of that same century. Since both my parents attended college my attendance was inevitable. I moved to Sacramento 2009 looking for a less expensive place to live as I got closer to retirement. I am an educator by profession, but currently not on anyone's salary. The beautiful young woman in my picture is my daughter who is currently going to college and living with me. I am looking first of all for a friend. It would be fun to have a companion for adventures like traveling, discovering a restaurant, exploring a nightspot, getting together with friends, etc. I can be serious, but am also able to giggle about funny or absurd experiences and secret exploits.

. It's challenging to try to describe oneself, but here goes...Some of my likes: dark chocolate, good coffee and my dog, Sam. If he could speak, he might tell you that he would like me to stay home with him a little bit more than I do or take him with me. I enjoy a good meal with friends at home or out, keeping it simple, and conversation around the dining room table that is stimulating topically--movies, politics, books. There are so many wonderful types of music to be appreciated, some of my favorites are jazz, opera(in limited doses), Afro-Cuban jazz and musical theatre. My early years were spent on the East coast and I love going to museums, art galleries, the theatre , foreign films and exploring unique bookstores.
Volunteering in our community has always been a part of my life. It can be a source of conversation at some time in the future if you are so inclined. In the meantime, I appreciate what I have and it makes me feel good to know that I can make a positive contribution in the life of someone who may be struggling.

. I'm easy-going and open-minded, although on the liberal side, I must admit. I like to laugh and I like to explore both new ideas and new vistas and territories; I like good food and stimulating conversation; I like music, tending towards the classical, but not exclusively. I like cats - they're independent, like me. I adore my family, I love to play with my grandkids and I love to find just the right gift for each one. I don't really like huge gatherings, I'm more the one-on-one type. I enjoy occasional spontaneous adventures, like going to South America by myself to learn Spanish - I don't remember much of the Spanish, but I had a fabulous time.
