My children keep me on my toes. One is a graduate of UC Santa Barbara and a budding entrepreneur, and the other a rising senior at UC Berkeley doing research at UCSF. Both are good souls, healthy, bright, engaging, laughing often...and much smarter than their Dad!. That's the way it should be!
I really can't take myself very seriously, finding whimsy, exploration, learning and spontaneity and even whacky ideas create special opportunities that otherwise might never come to be. I am the leadership gift director for a major research university with my principal region being New York City, with some trips up to Boston. I practiced law for 20 years and use that background in my work but my intuitive and how I engage alumni and friends is my real strength. I have built special relationships with my donors who have become good friends--what a special gift that is!
Simplicity and gratefulness epitomize elegance for me. Recently, when in NYC, hurrying on my way to a meeting, amidst the throng on the Avenue of the Americas, I saw a lovely woman who had this instant magic about her. We exchanged grand smiles, almost as if we were long-last friends, and our eyes locked for those precious moments. Then we were off, never to see one another again. I am very thankful to experience those unexpected moments of special connection.
I have the privilege of working with smart, hard-working students and world-class faculty. A Politics major as an undergrad, because I now represent the entire university, I'm thrilled to learn things I could never have imagined, including biomolecular engineering, genomics, linguistics and digital arts, among others. To be able to continue learning is one of the joys of my life. How lucky can a guy be?!
I seek adventure in its many manifestations, including marvelous hikes, great conversations, swimming among the wildlife at the feeding frenzy at Seacliff Beach.
