Date a man from California, United States. I’m a friendly and optimistic guy, who looks for the best in people. My tendency is to be playful and to see the funny side of things. I’m generally a happy person, though I deeply miss having a romantic love in my life. For a living I teach philosophy—including ethics, aesthetics, philosophy of mathematics, and Eastern religions. I get a kick out of interacting with students and introducing them to new ways of thinking about the world.
[Oops, correction needed. I recently retired and am now pursuing some deep interests that I hadn’t had time for. I’m expanding my art collecting into art dealing (as a private dealer). I’ve started to write piano music and experiment with a new way of creating visual art. I’ve begun doing volunteer work with very little kids—two to four years--at a local pre-school. I play them music and teach them songs, do magic for them (I’m an amateur magician), read them stories, supervise art creation, etc. I would like to teach some of them to read. People tend to underestimate, in my opinion, the maturity of most two-year-olds! I also plan to start up my old meditation practice, but haven’t gotten too far on this yet. Finally, I’m becoming a gym rat. I’ve been working out really vigorously at the gym at least five days a week. I’d also like to start taking yoga and Pilates classes at my gym.]
Getting back to the story of my life, in an earlier incarnation I was a stockbroker in Beverly Hills, a strategic planner for a real estate investment trust, and resident of a Buddhist meditation center. I grew up in a tiny town in the Boston area, graduated from Harvard, and got my PhD from Yale. I love to visit Paris. One of my hobbies is collecting art, especially European and American drawings—which frequently takes me to museums, galleries, and art auctions. Another is playing the piano for fun, mostly by ear. Biking and working out at the gym have helped keep me fit.
If you’re the partner I am looking for, you’d enjoy sharing some of my interests and introducing me to some of yours. You’d like to laugh a lot and cuddle. You’re open to sharing life’s simple pleasures and developing a deep, intimate relationship.
Meet someone special from California, United States. Formally great looking, now refer to Norma Efron's books, 61 and well, aging slowly and can't stand it...Looking for energy, connection, fun, a final two decades...looking for someone who is different, makes me laugh, makes me feel young again, and of course this only happens reciprocally...I love sexy and smart...and substantive for the longer term. I'm difficult but a young, curious, joyful heart lies beneath the Budda's life is difficult confirmed persona. Peace.
Date someone special from California, United States. Asked a few friends for a description: according to them (and me), I am upbeat, positive, authentic, down to earth, easy to know and very good company. They say "seeing you I smile and know we'll either be laughing soon or seriously discussing what's going on - whatever the topic, it will be real". I value honesty, integrity. Looking for joyful companionship....leading to a long term relationship. I work full time - plan to stay in the Bay Area, reasonably close to my daughter who is in Oakland.
Meet a woman from California, United States. I’m from lots of places—the northern and central Midwest, the Northeast, Southern California, New England, and, for the past dozen years, Northern California. Maybe we’ve passed each other on the sidewalk somewhere, sometime….
To earn my keep, IРІР‚в„ўve been writing about medicine and health for decades. IРІР‚в„ўm fortunate to feel comfortable in my current job and to like my co-workers very much.
When IРІР‚в„ўm not working, I like to read well-written books; bring friends together around my dinner table; walk/hike where itРІР‚в„ўs green and beautiful; listen to NPR; go to the movies, theater, and dance performances; listen to live classical, world, jazz/swing, blues, rock РІР‚?n roll, and Motown music; eat Asian, Mexican, Italian, French, Californian/fusion, and many other types of food; talk with people; and do a little traveling.
I've paddled a canoe in the Yukon River and walked along the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, but the most beautiful place I've ever seen is Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite in full bloom during the period of the Perseid meteor shower in August. It was as if nature were saying, "Here, have this beauty, and this, and this -- go on, have some more." (Yosemite is an Italian grandmother?)
I had many years of classical piano training, and I keep telling myself I'm going to "get my hands back." It would really be fun to play duets with someone who also plays the piano or another instrument -- no piccolos, thanks, but bring on the brass, strings, percussion, or wilder woodwinds (I love the oboe and bassoon).
Religiously, IРІР‚в„ўm best described as agnostic. For me, the way one treats others is whatРІР‚в„ўs important. I've done some meditation over the years, and I appreciate goodness and the small things in life .
I like the “Slow Food” movement’s philosophy of savoring what’s authentic and specific to a particular place. Similarly, I’d like to take the time to develop and savor a rich, deep, and gratifying relationship with one particular man, someone I could cherish.
IРІР‚в„ўm looking for

Meet a soulmate from United States. I do not have a preconceived notion of who you might be, if you're even on match.com.
But, if you're a cross between and/or get what I'm inferring here: I need to be with someone who has the intellectual breadth/depth of Charlie Rose and the artistic sensibilities of Sting (lyrics/poetry and musical breadth), Pat Metheny (music), and Renoir to Rembrandt to Kandinsky (art).
I like a man who is confident, knows himself (strengths and weaknesses) and is compassionate. You must appreciate the arts, like college football (especially my team- we had a great year) and be politically liberal. The ability to communicate well and honestly is a must. Integrity is key and encompasses other important values. And, there must be chemistry and a little magic.
Are you curious about the world? I'm a lifelong learner and always open to something new to increase my knowledge and horizons.
I always find humor in life, can laugh at myself, and enjoy laughing really hard. Yet, I have a compassionate spirit for those less fortunate than I.
I have deep friendships with a diverse and eclectic group of people and enjoy good times, dinners, vacations, etc. with them. I like great company as well as time alone.
My daughter (23) and son (20) do not live with me, but we are close. They will need me for some time to come.
Travel is important to me. In 2010 I went to Alaska to see the glaciers before they melt in summer and in the fall, Paris. Paris...
This fall (2011) I went to Northern Italy (Venice/Florence). Sadly, I missed the Lake Country and Cique Terre.
Future plans include Bora Bora, New Zealand, Buenos Aires (to learn the tango), St. Petersburg (or Canada) to see the Northern Lights, and...
I take risks and consider myself a shepherdess of people, ideas, and programs in whatever I do. I love my position and work hard, but I love to play equally as hard. I stop to catch a "rainbow" as it passes through my life.
I'm sensitive, compassionate, sensuous, understanding, and enjoy life to its fullest. I embrace my interesting journey (it's certainly not boring) and look forward to the future...always have, always will.
