Date single man from Ketchikan, United States. I'm 6’, ~220 enjoy long walks and a reasonably healthy diet & lifestyle. I retired early to “go play” which is what I’ve been doing since 1999. Over the past several years I have spent most of my time on the ocean and in the rain forests of southeast Alaska as a guide; I did leave for an extended period of time to help my sister & mother who were impacted by Hurricane Katrina. I was finally able to return to SE Alaska in October �08, buying a beautiful beachfront home on Tuxekan Passage which lies on the NW side of Prince of Wales Island just off Sea Otter Sound.
I am currently refitting my boat, rigging for hand trolling; plans are to spend some of the fishing season trolling various waters here in SE Alaska for King & Silver salmon… and exploring the islands that make up the Alexander Archipelago. I have some garden beds and am building a greenhouse from which I will have many wonderful meals. I gather much of my food needs from the land & ocean as resources become available.
When not in SE Alaska I have enjoyed the freedom to travel... I really enjoy going on “drive-abouts”… maybe having some final destination but letting circumstance & curiosity guide the pathway there. I love exploring out of the way towns and old antique shops, being outdoors, bad weather, and warm fireplaces. Having said that, I also enjoy warm climates... for awhile.
While my nature is to plan ahead, I’m spontaneous too… I love a day on the water, maybe pull some pots, find a nice beach, build a fire and boil up some fresh crab and shrimp, take a hike and enjoy the outdoors.
I have a home in CA, kind of a “plan B” for later in life if needed. I stop by there on occasion, mostly in the winter months when I travel to see my mother, children, grand-children and friends. While there I’m always up for a drive up the coast for some wine tasting or a day at Cambria. I enjoy an extended cabin stay in the Sierra mountains or any reasonably remote area. I love trips to Mexico, some fishing & hanging out on the beach and local places… tasting the culture. I've enjoyed extended camping trips to the Rocky Mountains for many years, maybe hunting, maybe just looking… now, I do my hunting here in Alaska.
I enjoy snorkeling with the green sea turtles in Kauai, cooking great meals (especially the fresh shrimp, crab, and fish in Alaska or from the market in Kaloa town, Kauai), and quiet places. I'm not really a "big city" fan, rather, I prefer smaller, quiet locations.
Quiet places are important to me as I have a hearing impairment as the result of exposure to huge explosions during my military service. Having said that, one of my favorite restaurants is NOLA, located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, which is not very often "quiet".
