Yeah I know some of you are going to say that there are things in life that have to be taken seriously, and I agree, but “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and if you can’t fix it, let it go". Stress kills. I love to laugh and love to make others laugh. I’ve never met a stranger. I can find something good in anyone. My sense of humor tends to run to the sarcastic, so some find it hard to figure me out at first, but once they do, they get that I just say what I’m thinking (or, sometimes without thinking!!). Open mouth, insert foot. But at least it’s never boring.
The good part: Age is NOT a factor to me. My last girlfriend was 17 years younger than me, and we were together 6 years. I’m NOT looking for a FWB, NSA or booty call. I want to meet a nice woman who believes that you start as friends, get to know one another and then let the relationship go wherever it takes us. I can enjoy myself doing just about anything from sitting on the couch with a DVD to bungee jumping (oh yeah, I’m a bit of a risk taker). I can enjoy a burger at McDonalds or Prime Rib at a nice steak house. Music is a big part of my life as I’ve played piano since I was 4. I spent 2 years in Nashville making my living playing on the road. Love classic country, 60's and 70's and some new music. No rap or hip hop, sorry. Anything to do with water trips my trigger too even if it’s just going to the lake at night and skinny dipping (ok, you get an idea what I was saying about my sense of humor...........but I do like skinny dipping!!). Family is highly important in my life. My kids are grown and married, but if you have kids, that’s not a problem. They usually like me, probably because I’m about half crazy and will play with them on their level. I’m not too old for tea parties and mud pies. Concerts, theater, street fairs, flea markets, Six Flags, water parks, all cool.
The not so good part: Women claim men are shallow, but I laugh looking at women’s profiles where the first picture is 20 years ago and then they throw in one current one at the end. That's shallow. At least I'm honest enough to use a current picture. Yeah, I've got some grey hair, but that doesn't define who I am. Try to at least get past just the picture and write me and find out that I'm intelligent, caring, romantic and NOT a liar. All the things most of you seem to be looking for. I'll at least have the courtesy to answer ALL mail I receive. How about taking a chance. And "soul mate"? What does that even mean? That term is so over used and I'm not even sure most people even know. They just use it. Also, if you can't spell, use proper English and punctuation or know the difference between there, their and they're please don't contact me. Those things all speak about who you are.
If that last part didn’t scare you off, I want to get to know you and I want you to judge me based on face to face, not emails and chat, and I'd like for you to do the same. If it doesn't develop into anything more than a lasting friendship, that's great too. If you're ready for an honest, direct person, hit me up. Hope to hear from you. After an adventurous and successful 24-year career in the Foreign Service, I retired at age 50, left San Diego, CA, and returned home to Alabama to be closer to family. Most of my career was spent in WashDC, but I also lived overseas in Australia, Lebanon, and most recently, Sri Lanka. I've spent the past couple of years building my dream cabin overlooking the Tennessee River, in the Appalachian foothills of north Alabama. The cabin is almost finished now, and the process of clearing land and building a house from the ground up has been an excellent transition into retirement for me. I enjoy building things, art in a variety of forms, history, and most things outdoors. I have to admit I spend way too much time on my deck, absorbing the sights and silence of country living . . . a new experience for me . . . and I'm still amazed at the scenic beauty of the 4-season sunsets and clear night skies around here. I travel too, whenever the whim hits me, visiting old friends from places I've lived and worked. In the past couple of years, I've hiked the Alps of Switzerland, ridden motorcycles along the French Riviera, driven a convertible with my son to Key West, and most recently, backpacked my way through Morocco. A bald eagle circled over my property one day as I was clearing some brush, and I thought that was a pretty good omen . . . . I'm where I need to be, doing what I need to be doing. ("War Eagle" to all you SEC football fans, BTW!) One thing I'm missing is a life partner to share my love of nature, art, history, and travel. I am financially and emotionally secure, and intend to spend retirement finishing my mountain chalet, hiking and biking the beautiful state parks nearby, doing some fishing and boating, riding motorcycles on backcountry roads and exploring the hidden treasures of small southern towns, taking my hippie/surfer-dude camper van down to the Gulf Coast, tailgating SEC football games, or any other roadtrips that spark my interest. I'm not tied to my property 3-6-5 . . . I would consider relocating for the right person . . . think of my place as the perfect full time or weekend retreat . . . but I do want to spend lots of time on my deck, or next to my fireplace, maybe with a good history book and cup of Sri Lankan tea, enjoying an expansive view of the river. I cook a mean meal and clean up nicely for special events . . . I'm quite comfortable in both boardrooms and bass boats, though I tend toward jeans and scruffy work boots these days. So there you have it. Life is looking pretty good. Just need to find the right person to enjoy it with!
